While a stable increasing trend in price of bagged wheat flour is observed in the past few years in Ethiopia, our client, Mr. Pak Mark, who lives in Jigjiga, has a source of organic wheat for around 1000 tons per month, entered a contract of 40TPD wheat flour milling turnkey project with KMEC, including the whole package procurement of equipments.
Production Ethiopia is the second largest wheat producing country in Africa behind South Africa. Wheat is mainly grown in the central and south eastern highlands during the main (Meher) rainy season (June to September) and harvested in October-November. Arsi, Bale, and parts of Shoa are considered the wheat growing belt.
The process of this 80t wheat production line includes the pre-cleaning, cleaning and milling part.
According to the USDA data; Ethiopia’s wheat production, which was 1,6 million tons in 2003/04 season, reached to 3,1 million tons in 2009/10 season and 3,4 million tons in 2012/13 season. Decreasing to 3,3 million tons by declining nearly 100 thousand tons in 2013/14 season, wheat production in the country is foreseen to be realized at these levels again in 2014/15 season.
Barley production is 1.5 million tonnes, up from 1.3 million. The sorghum crop is 2.6 million tonnes, compared with the previous year’s 2.1 million. According to the IGC, Ethiopia will import 500,000 tonnes of grain in 2010-11, compared with 1 million the year before. Most of it — 400,000 tonnes — is wheat, down from 900,000 last year.
